China in the the Year of the Loong - China: The Central Country Exhibition Opens in Madrid, Spain

How many Chinese live in Spain today? What does it look like? What are you doing? How does local society view and evaluate them?

This may be a question that every Chinese who has visited or is living here has thought and cared about.

Starting this year, everything has a relatively official and clear answer.

On the occasion of the New Year of the Dragon (Friday, January 25, 2024), the press conference and opening ceremony of the "ZHŌNGGUÓ: EL PAÍS DEL CENTRO" was hosted by the Ministry of Culture of Spain and the Museo Nacional de Antropología, and co-organized by the Chinese Embassy in the West, the Chinese Cultural Center, the Madrid Municipal Government , the Internal and Foreign Association, and the Clothing Museum.

Starting from January 27, a six-month display will be held at the National Museum of Anthropology, the window of Spain's national history, culture and society (until May 5). There is only one center - Chinese people living in Spain. During the exhibition, all Spanish residents and visitors can enter for free, learning about a rapidly growing community in recent years, but has always seemed familiar and unfamiliar. On the morning of January 26, Chinese Ambassador to Spain Yao Jing, Spanish Minister of Culture Jordi Martí, Spanish Minister of Culture Jordi Martí, Chief Cabinet Minister of the Propaganda Department Áneles Albert , National Museum Director Mercedes Roldán, National Museum Director Fernando Sáez , Chinese Minister Counsel He Yong , Madrid Minister of the Chinese Cultural Center, Yang Changqing , Chinese Consul in Spain, Chinese Consul in Spain Jiang Zhenshi, Andreas Janousch, President of the Confucius Institute in Madrid, and other invited guests and Chinese representatives attended the event.

The exhibition co-curator Xiao Xirouhe, director of the museum and representatives of artists, guided the guests and introduced each work in detail.

Subsequently, in the main exhibition hall, Director Fernando Seth, Ambassador Yao Jing and Secretary-General of State Jodi Marty delivered speeches one after another.

Ambassador Yao Jing reviewed the friendship between China and the West, expressed his gratitude to the Spanish Ministry of Culture and the museum for their attention and concern for local Chinese and overseas Chinese and the artists' careful creations, and also sent everyone a blessing for the Lunar New Year of the Dragon Year; Secretary-General Jodi Marti emphasized equality and respect in cultural exchanges.

The National Museum of Anthropology collects and displays more than 20,000 cultural relics from five continents, located at No. 68, 12th Street, Alfonso, the center of Madrid . It is the first museum of anthropology created in Spain, unveiled by King Alfonso XII on April 29, 1875 , and is today affiliated with the Spanish Ministry of Culture.
